We’ve all seen the videos on YouTube or Facebook, right? Someone takes a car rim, a helmet, an Xbox controller, or a firearm, and dips it into some murky looking water, shakes it around a bit, and next thing you know, when they take it out of the water, BOOM! Some real cool looking design is printed on the item. Could be skulls, lightning, flowers, camo, carbon fiber, or literally countless other designs. That’s what’s so cool about hydro dipping: there are thousands of designs out there right now.

Sure, you could have someone airbrush those designs, but that’s not really cost effective when you want your whole ATV customized, is it? You could have some vinyl made up and pay someone with a hair dryer to professionally install it, but would you really want something that could be destroyed by a fingernail? Or by a random twig that juts onto the trail? Hydro dipping takes the cost effectiveness of vinyl and the design options of airbrushing and meets in the middle.

Like a mob boss from Southie, hydro dipping has aliases. Water transfer printing, hydrographics, cubic printing, immersion printing, and water transfer imaging are just the most common. We keep it pretty un-scientific around here and just call it “dipping”. Don’t get me wrong, if you call us and say, “um, I’m calling to inquire about the possibility of utilizing the cubic printing process on my Mercedes’ dashboard” we’ll give you a price, but as soon as I hang up, I’ll probably turn around and say, “Yo Craig, we got a Benz dash coming in to get dipped”.
